Relocation of Kbon Reviews, GRM Days and Career Avenues...

Everyone, I'm back again after a long absence, a lot has happened in the past months before Christmas! I decided to share with you what I have been up to and my career I plan to head onto. Firstly, I would like to announce that Kbon Reviews, the urban blog for film, music and video game reviews is currently now inactive and will be reallocated to a different site and will be supported by Live Mag who I am now working with as a contributing writer/video editor on their site. There, on the site will be opinion pieces that will have subjects which effect people in society in the UK and abroad too but there mostly will be reviews for entertainment. I will post the new site sometime this Friday evening and the first review will be on rising femcee, Paigey Cakey who released her mixtape 'The Next Paige!'

Enough of that, what I decided to speak about is my journey and how I am progressing, as you know I released Nemesis the Hunter's Mark#1 online back in October! Many of you may know this, those who haven't shame on you (joking!) but I used to write for GRM Daily (formerly Grime Daily) I have been writing for them voluntarily for almost a year now. Since then, I have joined LIVE and now Link Up TV!

Let me start by saying I don't plan to throw anyone under the bus, my time with GRM Daily had some highs and lows. I met performing artists such as Mikel Ameen, Lady Lykez and wrote an interview for the duo SAS just to name a few. Those were great times and I managed to interact with an aspiring young blogger/writer/PR assistant from Pardon My Blog. As you know, things went downhill after that, I won't go into the details but I was very much underrated and the chores as a writer didn't help things so I decided to quit and make my way out!

I ended up with LIVE pretty much accidentally, it was initially temporary but there was a huge network of people I managed to converse with such as staff from ITV, BBC, MTV and so many more. Now the rest is history, as I balance my time at uni whilst committing to exciting content from both of the youth orientated media/entertainment/publishing platforms Link Up TV and LIVE. This is also part of the reason why I have posted a single post on this site since October!

So what does the future hold for me? Well, I am continuing to produce work for Nemesis the Hunter and I have some other comic projects at the back burner in development as well as the prequel graphic novel. 'Hardest to Survive' has been post-poned in place of a new 5 minute short called 'The Hood' that is likely to be released this Spring and I have returned to music. At the moment, I am 10 tracks in with twice more being prepared until I am satisfied with the content!

Make sure you stay tuned Friday ciao!

Reboots or Remakes that Make or Break a Franchise.

To celebrate the release of the Sony Pictures film, The Amazing Spider-Man, coming to theatres this July 3rd 2012 I have decided to speak about the subject of reboots and remakes that make or break a franchise. For those of you who do not know, a reboot is where a piece of narrative is discontinued and therefore lists the continuity of that original film or series of films to be non-canon and stats with new and fresh ideas. Whereas a remake is the opposite, it uses the previous films as a base for its source material and uses the same storyline while adding other elements and themes which usually updates a film to match a modernised setting. Now that is cleared up, let me give you a few examples of each remake and reboot; some good, bad and darn right ugly.

Reboots

Alright, first let's start with the reboots.

Best

We never get tired of 007, even though the Bourne movie franchise reinvented what it means to be a spy in the 21st century. Producers of Casino Royale (2006) booted Pierce Brosnan out and birthed the MI6 agent with a whole new face and hardened image in the form of renowned actor Daniel Craig who was praised for his performance in Layer Cake (2004). Stemming closer to the Ian Flemming novels of yesteryear, Martin Campbell envisioned a blood-thirsty and less charismatic Bond. With mission after mission of exonerating talent from the main and supporting cast members and fast-paced action, this Bond spawned a less received sequel Quantum of Solace (2008) and 23rd Bond 'Sky Fall' (2012) with Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road) at the helm.

Fine

After Director Ang Lee's (Brokeback Mountain) effort with "Hulk" (2003) made the green giant seem like a laughing stock with irrelevant melodrama, as borish as Shakespeare's Hamlet, Louis Letterier (Transporter 1 & 2) decided to make the Angry Man whole again with a new back story, cast and Marvel having creative control. Even the actor in the lead pitched in to make the script deviate from the previous movie as much as possible that created a less weepish, heroic and smarter Bruce Banner (Edward Norton). The script was tighter with some "easter eggs" found on the silver screen but was boggled down with intense special effects and CGI that turned it from soap opera to popcorn flick. However, the movie had its high points that shone brighter than its low points.

Worst

I will admit, I never watched the 1994 film based on the video game series but this reboot of the movie does not give me the incentive to watch the last one. Starring Kirstin Kreuk as the titular character, very few adaptations of very well known games can translate very well in cinema and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (2009) is not one of them. Although the concept was good, I just felt the producers Patrick Aiello and Ashok Amritraj either did not care about the source material or did not try hard enough. Badly casted and terribly choreographed with less than inspiring plot and characters, Kreuk's Chun-Li I'm afraid did not carry the film. This film made Dragon Ball Evolution (2009) look better than it did. Oh well, at least we have the game to fall back to.

Remakes

Now for the remakes, here they are.

Best

First of all, I did not even know Scarface (1983) was a remake. Well if so, it is a very successful one at that and is actually based on the 1932 film of the same name. The well over 2 hours long crime film tells us the story of Cuban refugee, Tony Montanna (Al Pacino) who becomes a drug crime lord in Miami, Florida with "Manny Ray" (Steven Bauer), it lets us know about the rise and fall of their infamous drug cartel organization. With a great structure, acting, themes and well envisiged direction by De Palma, this cautionary tale scripted by Oliver Stone allowed us to dig deeper into the psyche of Montana and is arguably one of the best gangster films of all time.

Fine

A remake of the 2002 Hong Kong film Internal Affairs, The Departed (2006) was directed by Martin Scorsesee and starred such big names as Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and Jack Nicholson. Brilliantly scripted, well sliced together and strong acting, this jumbled thriller told a story of corrupt cop (Damon) who is placed on the police force as an informant for mob boss, Costello (Nicholson) and Costigan (DiCaprio), recent graduate of the police academy, grudgingly agrees to go undercover as an enforcer for Costello. This confused mess was hard to digest and was thankfully unpredictable, although the message behind the film could not be clearly defined plus the character of Costigan is a bit underdeveloped in terms of his links to his criminal past.

Worst

Directed by the great Tim Burton in 2001, and based on Pierre Boulle's book and the original 1968 film, the Apes riding the King's Horsemen came up with Planet of the Apes. Aboard a space station, sometime in the late 2020's, Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) sends a Chimpanzee into a freak storm and he pilots after the primate. Davidson and crew find themselves on a barren wasteland in a world run by humanoid Apes. Great premise but weak execution from direction, prosphetics, structure and downgraded plotlines, the movie itself eventually became a paradox of it's own doing. The tone was just so bizarre and silly, even the final showdown and climax that ended it all was over the top and it did not make any sense and reminded me of the excuse of an ending from Terminator 3.

Well, that's it for reboots and remakes. I will come back to you next week with  what I got planned for all of you.

My Thoughts on Smallville #1 comic.

Those of you who don't know, Smallville was a long running TV series based on the early years before Clark Kent became Superman, created by writers and producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. It spanned 10 seasons and featured on two networks, The WB and CW, which ended with Kent having finally embraced his destiny and took flight in the iconic red and blue suit and pushed away Apokolips from Earth's orbit. News cropped up of a possible comic book in the works that continues on the hit series. It has indeed, it was released electronically last Friday 13th April on Comixology on phones such as Android and I-Tunes. The first chapter was written by Bryan Q. Miller, who also wrote the TV series, with pencils by Pere Perez.

With the 1st issue heading to print on May 2nd, I managed to catch a quick read of the first chapter of Guardian part 1 on my Samsung Galaxy. It turns out here it has been six months since Kent defeated Darkseid, gave the people hope and thus purged the darkness out of everyone's hearts and saved the Earth from a cosmic threat of intergalactic proportions. Most characters draw their likeness to actors from the Smallville show such as Superman (Tom Welling), Lois Lane (Erica Durance), Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) and Chloe Sullivan-Queen (Allison Mack). So what can I say about this? Was this a great adaptation?

As far as I can tell, it was interesting. It's too early to judge the entire series as a whole but it was gratifying. The only problem I had with it was the pacing felt a bit rushed. However, it does set the stage of what to expect, for example, Kent no longer goes by The Blur and is now fully fledged in his Superman persona. Little is known of his work at the Daily Planet but I hear Kent still works the same floors down whereas Lois is promoted 8 floors up. I won't spoil the whole story, but it involves a rescue mission in space. Chloe and Oliver are enjoying their marriage and still at Watchtower. The suit that Kent wears from the New 52 is okay, but I like the Superman Returns inspired version better. The writing has done justice to each character's voices, which is what I would expect from having done Smallville and the art is really great.

I will be honest, I never really got into Superman's character, I grew up on the cartoon series and the Smallville TV show from way back in 2001 but only for the spectacle of it and nothing more. I more invested in the live action version than anything else. Only because Superman is too god-like and it is hard to care for someone too powerful. If I were to read any DC comic, it would be Batman but this one and some of it's material would convince me to buy it. I can't wait till the next chapter on April 20th and I'm waiting to see how they pull it off and who Superman will face from his rouges gallery, plus how it will fit this universe. I leave by saying kudos to the solid, encompassing, writing, excellent art but short and flat-nosed finish.

Next post is my Director's Cut,

Birmingham Comic Con: 2011.

Everyone, just so you know I just reached Birmingham last night and I'm heading over to the comic-con today in the morning. The update will be coming most likely this week and I'm getting prepared for my last year of six form next week. It's been a tough year, I'm sill waiting for all of my results to come through and so far it's looking good. I will try ad upload the update as soon as I can and I'm working on the interview with Jordan O'Connor plus the introduction video will come through. I will be meeting the likes of Dave Gibbons and Doug Braithwaite at the event. Here are pictures taken of where the location in Birmingham was around the location and during the event around it. Sadly, Mark Millar couldn't turn up at the event due to unforeseen health problems and I wanted to get one of my "The Ultimate's" books and "Wanted" signed.

Future Adventures for Nemesis?!

Hope you enjoyed your holidays, people. I've just gone back to college and I got exams in about three weeks time, tiring. This won't really effect the schedule, but the release date for the first issue I will not put out until I have full confirmation. The New Kid has unfortunately been met with delays, but should start hopefully by May. I plan to shoot the next two clips for Hardest to Survive in about a week after my exam date but plans are being made for the full shooting of the 30 minute thriller. The departing of Richard O'keefe - the actor in for one of the leads - has greatly affected production but has been covered with a replacement. I will not tell you who is going to play Nate - one of five members of the cast - until after I release Nemesis the Hunter's Mark#1.

Aside from this, Rommel Fabian is replacing Julio Falkenhagen in pencilling duties in Nemesis Dawn of a Legend in the latter part of 2011. Joining him will be the letterer, Shawn Milazzo with the story, layouts and inks done by me as usual. I am not sure who is going to do the colours but it is very likely to be an unknown. I will reveal which company is publishing the comic book when issue 1 of the current series is printed. To be honest, I don't like to hype about sequels. I plan ahead but I say if you do not get the original right, why commit to another one after it. Take all the Spider-Man movies for example, they were real great right. Be honest, now tell me if you agree? But the first two were damn good Spider-Man 2 was even better. When it came to 3, it was huh?! Now they're doing a fourth but its a reboot The Amazing Spider-Man.

Now, I'm not saying 3 wasn't good but it overcomplicated things. I won't even start, but I want to say that I plan on maybe doing probably a web-comic series and features a British superhero. I will not say it yet until I'm sure.

Animation to go production.

With the third draft of the anime trailer for Nemesis the Hunter's Mark handed in to my partner, it's not long before we have a clearly envisioned script. I am about to organize a reading with Courtney Starr, the voice of Henry Jackson, and with another actor negotiating with him to play the role of a helper of sorts. This actor I have talked about has made a cameo in Doctor Who, Skins, Tracey Beaker and acted in Theatre Royal Romeo and Juliet. I am searching for an actress who can play the love interest of Henry and his ex-girlfriend, Maria Francisco.

For those who have read Nemesis Dawn of a Legend, you last saw Henry rejecting his father's legacy and moving forward after his first battle with his enemy in the prequel. What you can expect in this one is he will go through a gradual transformation into his own image as he deals with his mental instability, relationships, conspiracies, arch-rivals, a dark past and within himself. Henry must look for reassurance in his self on his journey while stuck in between a deadly transfer of power between two factions and remember who he really is. Here is a brief synopsis for the whole series coming this Spring 2011 (no spoilers) from the Facebook page.

Nemesis the Hunter's Mark

Synopsis:

On the streets of NYC two factions wage war in an ominous power struggle spanned for centuries. Molecular biologist, Henry Jackson gets back with Maria Francisco after their last reunion went in shambles. Years have passed and the couple separate while Henry traces his long forgotten past and searches through the inheritance his deceased parents left in their wake. But the fortune which provided his career wasn’t the only possession that remained. When Henry discovers illegal documents on a revolutionary formula his life changes the minute he gets recruited into the TEI (Tactical Enforcement Initiative) – NSA branch – an agency that kept tabs on him throughout his life. That’s not all an alternate personality takes control of him. Some spirit that inhabited his family, and granted him power through modification of the genes, as a secret organization wants the scientist for their own devices. Being our last hope against masses of destruction Henry must become in modern legends The Shadow Man and make a choice – whether to give up this curse or use it to fight his demons and protect his love that is his very soul from servitude – the only thing keeping him together as – Nemesis the Hunter.

And there you have it, all of what you can expect for the first issue and afterwards. Sometime next month, I should have teaser posters for the comic book, a summary of issue 2 and post a video clip of the process. As for my other project, Hardest to Survive, I have just spoken to a director friend of mine and discussed about possibly hosting a festival. Next week, details of the Pilot for The New Kid. I tweeted there will be an actor from my short film who is going to make cameo in this Pilot. I handed him the script this week and is speaking with Jstaarz about his role. More on that and where it is going plus the actor to replace Richard O'keeffe. Also, Kbon Reviews will be going to review a film ending in 5 and a TV series.

Enjoy the weekend,

The New Kid update and more!!!!

It's now the 5th April people, and it's nearly half term, yes!!! Now I got an update for you, first I just handed the revised script of the pilot for The New Kid. For those of you who don't know what this is, check my last post. Its a new web series coming from the F-ENT team and it stars a couple talented youth about a newbie who enters a new block. Jstaarz, the creator, will direct and this will be executive produced by myself and I will star in it. Shooting may start ASAP during the Easter holidays and should then be uploaded on the Myspace page here is the link for it http://myspace.com/frontierent, on my Youtube account, the link for it is here http://www.youtube.com/user/89kbon my new site http://www.nemesisthehunter.co.uk/ and on this blog. Photograph stills of behind the scenes maybe on this blog also. Check Frontier Entertainment on Facebook.

Another thing is with Hardest to Survive, I am speaking to all of the actors involved with that and I will not start Principal Photography until all testing shoots are done. I have got back my Photoshop again, I should be able to post more artwork from the comic book prequel last year, Nemesis Dawn of a Legend but not as yet. I will try and find time in order to do that, but I have just been handed more pencils from Julio, the co-artist and designer, so I got more inking for issue 1 of Nemesis the Hunter's Mark. Lettering from Rommel will be handed to me this week and hopefully I can get the inking done in time before Easter break so that I can hand in all of the inks and letters for Kieron to colour. More services will be added on the new site soon, so make sure you check them out for apps or stuff like that.

See yah later,

Nemesis the Hunter's Mark anime trailer.

Fans, what's good. I got some great news for you, the anime trailer for the upcoming comic book miniseries is close to coming up with a face. About 20 actors have auditioned for the role of lead character and only 6 of them have made it through this far. I will make a final decision this week on the 24th March. Its been a tough call, as each actor have been very great in their interpretation of Henry Jackson and captured the essence of his suave, egotistic and kind-hearted nature. I will not tell you what is in store this issue and I am not certain when it will be released. However, if production is swift I should be able to release it after the 1st issue's release. I am about to start the next draft of the script and revisions are being sorted out for storyboards, plus I am going to manage a studio where I can sort out the animation and recording. I will reveal what is going on with the first issue later on, but issue 1 is not far behind print and as stated on the Facebook page, issue 2 is ready to be drawn. Cover artist, Dean Richards, is about to start the cover for the second issue. As soon as I have sent Julio, Kieron and Rommel layouts and the script for the next issue: "Freedom short-lived" will begin. The comic I plan to sell will be bi-monthly, so hopefully from April 2011 to October 2011 and from there it should then later be collected as a graphic novel. As for the prequel, Nemesis Dawn of a Legend, it will start around Summer and Autumn and be collected into an e-book as graphic novel.

Next week, I will come back on the development of Hardest to Survive, the production on clips, as well as what is the future of other projects in store. By then I should tell you what the address for the new website is and services available for you. At some point, T-shirts and illustrations will be available to you but at the moment, due to my crazy schedule, I won't be able to do it as yet. Although, I can set up a video production (for musicians, artists, promoters) and writing services in a range of different mediums (articles, lyrics, film, tv, poems, short stories, comics and even animation).

Alright, take care everyone

The New Website.

Nemesis the Hunter's Mark will release it's new website on the 31st March, at the moment it's still under construction and has not been updated yet. On the site, there are services as well as some multimedia you can observe. The services include video production, writing proposals, illustrations and T-shirt designs. Its supported by GBBO (Getting British Business Online) and is associated with Head for Business, L-D Studios, Frontier Entertainment and Ezee Media. It provides writers a chance to get their voices heard and their ideas enhanced. The site will be linked to this blog and any presentations will be referred on the blog but uploaded on that network. There, you will be able to make an order for the comic when it comes out soon this Spring 2011. Production is moving swift, I promise I will get back to the covers in due time. Also, pray for those who were lost in Japan in the Tsunami, its a terrible situation and I hope many down there are okay. I think I will do a campaign for them and give a tribute and show them to come out this dark time, maybe some Manga art. We must not take things for granted that we're still alive. The secret to life is to make up for things and enjoy yourself whenever you can in life.

I will be back with progress on the comic book,

Take care everyone,

The Launch.

Welcome back everyone, we're now in the beginning of March. Enjoyed your weekend? Well, I got loads to inform you about. Nemesis the Hunter now has it's very own website, I will reveal the address soon enough, at the moment, its under construction but I will make a press release soon. Its a multimedia site designed to give services for the purpose of your entertainment, so stay tuned for updates. The website is also made for those who have any ideas in media such as videos, music, artwork, writing from their own imagination to come forward and present their space and get someone to enhance them for a generous fee. The requirements I will place on the site when it is ready but these are for written or graphic material only.

In other news, Julio Falkenhagen, the co-artist on my book, Nemesis the Hunter's Mark, has just finished pencilling my pages for the 1st issue and I have nearly done the inks. It will take at least a few weeks before printing can be made. Julio is now ready to take on issue 2, I just have to send him layouts and the script for that. Lettering is being worked on at the moment and the animation which should be out before the book is coming out is still in the development stages, I've just handed in the second draft to one of my co-workers, which is being revised, who also helped me out with "Aggro" for Pulp Theatre. The next draft will be penned by me and the story will be revised by an editor and approved for production.

See you later,

Rommel Fabian is about to start letters and Kieron Boothe is sorting out the colour. There is no confirmation on which publisher is going to handle the distribution, either one of the big two, Marvel or DC; Image, Dark Horse or independents like Arcana Studios, Black Diamond, Cellar Door Publishing etc but all will be revealed. Remember that flash animation I told you about months ago, well it is still in the works. I have 15 actors auditioning for the lead and the cartoon's script is in development. Nemesis the Hunter's Mark#1

Part one of seven: The Fallen.

"COVER ART by DEAN RICHARDS, SCRIPT, LAYOUTS & INKS by ANDRE FARQUHARSON, PENCILS by JULIO FALKENHAGEN, COLOURS by JUANMAR STUDIOS AND LETTERS by ROMMEL FABIAN. NEMESIS THE HUNTER'S MARK © written and created by ANDRE FARQUHARSON. Henry Jackson is haunted by nightmares and strange imaginings which pinpoint his deceased parents' situation the night they were killed in a fire in episodic flashbacks. There you have it, five pages of quality art from Julio, he is very talented and I got to admit he is the best at what he does. Follow the process on my blog and on twitter, here the link is down below. My animation trailer I plan to do is postponed until further notice as I have projects that I am focusing on right now. I am fully vested into my comic and film project I got down the line. Plus my time is really full right now as I have got a separate media project that I am doing also, which is going to take most of my time. However, the animation trailer is still in development and is listed on my schedule.

The Nemesis issue 1

Fans, your commentator is here to bring you some much needed feedback on my forthcoming seven issue comic book series, Nemesis the Hunter's Mark. I am writing the story, braking it down in layouts and inking the pages while Julio Falkenhagen is doing his tight pencils, Kieron Boothe, graphic designer is doing colours and Rommel Fabian is lettering. Now that we got that clear and out of the way on who is credited on this piece, I will reveal the title of the first issue of this all new story arc. The issue will be called "The Fallen", a synopsis is posted below. Before I present you with all of my images down by a few artist's I would like to inform you a note: these pictures are the property of each artist, any information I give you maybe subject to change. Do not forward any links of this to anyone or to any third party without my permission.

Nemesis the Hunter's Mark#1

Part one of seven: The Fallen.

"Henry Jackson is haunted by nightmares and strange imaginings which pinpoint his deceased parents' situation the night they were killed in a fire in episodic flashbacks. Seven years earlier, he moved to Queens, New York with Uncle Phil and dated Maria Francisco whilst at Fordham University where he befriended Raphael Hagen and Ryan Mitchell, a rivalry developed between Jackson and Mitchell as Ryan fell in love with Maria, so much that he ends up doing one action that eventually causes a feud. Henry maybe forced to abandon his girlfriend and his life will never be the same again".

Well here are the images, these are preliminary sketches of the characters done by Julio and I with some concept art by Dean Richards who did the teaser cover of issue 1 above. Sadly, he does not have time to do other covers for many future issues, which is a shame, but there will be more cover art done by the whole creative team. Anyway, enough rambling, here are the pictures. Enjoy what you see:

That is all for now, I hope you enjoy the images. It took alot of teamwork and effort to produce somthing like this. Preview images of issue 1 will be released sometime this week, if you are a Facebook user, go on to a link for Facebook Groups and type in Nemesis the Hunter's Mark. Updates on the process will be made constantly each week. Invite your friends to join the social community and take part in any event that should arise, there will be nothing important coming up for now but a Press Release of the book has been in talks with interests and managers. I am about to start inking the magnificent Julio's art.

Thank you for your time
